For the weekend, we rented a houseboat on the Amstel called Tempgina.
The best spot on board was the little glass greenhouse cabin out on deck. Mornings there were slow and quiet: steam curling off hot mugs of coffee, the water gently rocking underfoot, and low-slung canal boats and ducks drifting past in the soft grey light.
Our friends were hosting a housewarming over in Weesperzijde, so when the party finally wound down in the small hours, “heading home” meant nothing more than a short, happy stumble across the cobbles and back down onto the water.
I’ve always wanted to do that – looks so cool!
It was very cool! I recommend doing it during summer, because then you can enjoy sitting out on deck more than you can in winter. It didn’t cost more than a ordinary hotel, but it’s just a way better experience. I want to do it again!
If you are, like me, in love with the canals of Amsterdam you should always try and rent a houseboat when visiting Amsterdam.
